| Beginners to
birdwatching or the site being visited are made particularly welcome.
Both local (car) and more distant (coach) trips offer you the added
benefit of knowing you will be guided by experienced birdwatchers
who know the site being visited and what you might expect to see.
With coach trips you are free to wander off and "do your own
thing" or, if you prefer, you can stay with the leader and benefit
from their knowledge. There is always a good rapport between those
attending, and the sharing of information and telescopes is always
in evidence.
Thanks
to those who supported our trips. PLEASE could others support
our coach trips. We can't run them at a loss and really don't want
to cancel.
It's
a great way to watch and learn about birds, without the driving.
You're also doing your bit to reduce traffic pollution!

| Minsmere
in June is alive with noisy breeding birds including avocet,
common tern and black-headed gulls, but less noisy are the breeding
marsh harriers and bitterns that inhabit the extensive reed
beds. This reserve with its range of habitat from beach to woodland
has so much to offer the visitor. The adjoining National Trust
reserve at Dunwich Heath has a resident population of Dartford
warblers. The visitor centre has a café, toilets and
a shop. Walking is generally easy with boardwalks in places.
Dunwich Heath requires a short climb. Distance 2 to 4 miles.

| This
National Nature Reserve sits astride the river Meon, its visitor
centre / café on the edge of the Solent giving distant
views of the Isle of Wight. At this time the scrapes, pools
and meadows of the reserve should offer a variety of ducks and
waders with the possibility of green, common or curlew sandpiper
and little stint. Bearded tits are resident and buzzards are
regular visitors. The Solent may have a few scoters, eider or
grebes on offer and the shoreline should provide more waders
plus a variety of gulls. Admission £2.95 (Under 16’s
£1.85) |

| The
big attraction at Holkham in the winter is the high concentration
of pink-footed geese which should be visible at close range
along with good numbers of ducks. There will be an opportunity
to explore the beach and dunes, plus the woodland and lake of
Holkham Hall so shore lark, snow bunting, crossbill and goldcrest
are all possible. Few facilites are available in the winter
and there could be much walking involved. |

| We
will be exploring the North Kent shore of the Thames, and Yantlet
Creek. Large numbers of wintering waders in the area, including
godwits, oystercatchers and knots inevitably attract peregrine
falcons which we would hope to locate. There should be divers,
mergansers, goldeneye and eiders on the river and a short eared
owl might make an appearance over the marshes. Meet near the
British Pilot pub in Avery Way. A flat medium length walk with
no facilities (Post code for Sat. Nav. ME3 9QW) |
