Site:

Approx 88 hectares (217 acres) of broadleaved woodland on a hill overlooking Lesnes Abbey ruins, founded 1178. Includes several ponds, a fossil bed, chalk pit, heathland and grassy meadows. Part is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Resident: All three woodpeckers and other usual woodland species including jay, magpie, robin, song thrush, blackbird, wren, collared dove, tits
Occasional: Kestrel, pheasant, ring-necked parakeet
Possible: Nuthatch, treecreeper
Flowers: Daffodil, bluebell, violet, wood anemone, foxglove, heather, willow herb , red campion, figwort, dogs mercury, ramson, St Johns wort, yellow archangel, yellow iris . Among the more unusual trees are hornbeam and mulberry, larch and swamp cypress.
Additional Information: Essential to obtain leaflet from Bexley Council before visit or Information centre at the ruins.
Comment: Unlikely to produce any avian rarities but walkers can log up woodland species while admiring flowers and trees plus the spectacular views across the river Thames to Essex.
