Sightings 2003/2004

Little Egret
Brian Edwards Thursday 18 March 2004

You may be interested to hear of our recent sightings of Little Egrets.

On several occasions we have seen a Little Egret feeding in the River Shuttle at Willersley Park near Willersley Avenue, Blackfen. We have also seen one feeding in the River Cray at Footscray Meadows, where incidentally we have recently seen Gadwall Ducks.

This week whilst in Shoreham, Kent we saw another Little Egret feeding in a tributary of the River Darenth. These little chaps do appear to be spreading out away from the Marshes.

Various Sightings
Ralph Todd December 2003

Little Egret between River Shuttle Bexley and River Cray Footscray Meadows between Friday 19th - Wednesday 24th December. Also Stonechat Upper College Farm area on 19th December 2003

From 26th December there have been up to 3 Little Egrets along the Shuttle between Days Lane, Marlborough Park and the golf course.

Also, apparently a large flock of Golden Plover with Lapwing in fields adjacent M2/M25 interchange although they seem to be more regularly seen around the Horton Kirby area.

A visit Danson Park Lake and Five Arches Foots Cray Meadows for unusual wildfowl species might be worthwhile. In December there were some 3 shoveler (10th) and 40 shoveler (11th) suggesting weather movements of wildfowl. Also quite a lot of Long-tailed tits and Goldcrests around in gardens now.
